The Benefits of Aluminum Frames for Glasses
When deciding on a new pair of glasses, it’s important to weigh your options carefully as it affects your everyday experiences. A new pair of glasses affects your quality of vision, eye health, and personal style. With these factors in mind, there are three major components to consider when buying a new pair of glasses: the material of the frame, the style, and manufacturing of the lenses.

Eyeglass Frame Materials: Why Aluminum is Often a Great Choice
The new Visualites X expands the popular lightweight rimless line of reading glasses from Visualites with an aluminum frame option. Our original reading glasses have been made with TR90 plastic, which became popular for its flexible nature, making them very comfortable and hard to break. This new model gives our customers a slightly more elegant option with the metal frame. While the TR90 models are perfectly appropriate for any occasion, the new Visualites X may appeal to those who want their glasses to make a statement in the company of CEOs, board rooms, or the halls of academia.
We chose Aluminum for several reasons over other metal options. When comparing aluminum to stainless steel, Aluminum is about one third the weight, so the very nature of Visualites being lightweight reading glasses made aluminum the obvious choice.
When compared to Titanium, Aluminum is significantly lighter by a staggering 60%. It is also more cost effective, allowing us to offer these high quality reading glasses at their competitive price to our customers. We could have looked at gold or silver, but the reasons why we did not choose these frame materials is self-evident.
Other options included lesser known metals like Monel and Beryllium. We decided against those as well, taking into account that aluminum is hypoallergenic. This means it doesn’t tarnish or rust, so there really was no other choice for our newest model.
Aluminum can also be dyed, allowing us to produce them in any color you want! Color dye on Aluminum does not rub or flake off. When you color aluminum with a dye solution and a catalyst, it actually changes color. The color you see when you get your new reading glasses is the color they will be as long as you have them.
On top of all of this, Aluminum is easy to recycle. Since we love the planet and want to do our part in reducing waste, this was an absolute must!
The new Visualites X comes in our very popular tube case so they can travel safe and be kept with you wherever you go. The hard-shell plastic case will protect these in your pocket, backpack, or purse. You never have a reason to not have your readers with you again.
Reading Glass Lenses: Why Optical Quality Matters
Oftentimes, people are not aware of why some products cost more than others. If you are at the point in your life where you need reading glasses, then you are most likely at the point in your life where you know that you get what you pay for. Sure, there are cheaper reading glasses out there, but this comes at a cost to your comfort, vision, and the health of your eyes.
All of our lightweight rimless reading glasses here at Visualites come with “Optical Quality Lenses”. What does this mean to you? First, they are made with Polycarbonate which makes them extremely lightweight and shatterproof to protect your eyes. In terms of vision quality, what does this mean? Cheaper lenses have a higher level of aberration (distortion and/or color separation) that occurs in the lens material. The amount of aberration in Polycarbonate is largely determined based on the methods of manufacturing. Lenses made poorly can have high levels of chromatic distortions and very small optical centers, whereas lenses made to Optical Quality Standards will have low levels of these distortions and a larger optical center. Glass lenses can offer some of the highest quality lenses but come with a weight that few people want to wear. When made well, Polycarbonate Optical Quality Lenses offer the best of both worlds: lightweight and clear vision! So with the new Aluminum frame Visualites X reading glasses, you are getting the best of both worlds.
The Anti-Reflective Coating on Our Reading Glasses
We know that anti-reflective (AR) coating on the lenses makes all reading glasses better, so of course we put it on our new model. The AR coatings eliminate reflections in lenses and increase contrast and clarity. They also make the lenses nearly invisible, so when interacting with others you can make better eye contact. Additionally, AR-coated lenses are also much less likely to have glare spots in photographs.
Once we got all the materials confirmed, we took a good look at what our customers have been ordering over the years and what feedback and requests we have been getting. Based on this we came out with two lens shapes: “Pillow” and “Rectangle”. The pillow is a soft, rounder shape while the rectangle is a slightly asymmetrical and very edgy design. Order both for two different looks with your rimless readers.
As you can see we put a lot of research into our newest model of lightweight readers here at Visualites, we hope you like them just as much as we do.
