Many people discover they need their vision corrected at an early age. A teacher might notice that a child is struggling with making out what is written on the board or a coach may observe some hand-eye-coordination difficulties. The parents are notified and the child is taken to an eye doctor to discern whether they have far- or nearsightedness (hyperopia and myopia, respectively) and whether they need eyeglasses.
