FACE

SHAPE

One of the most common questions we get from new customers is what frame style will fit my face, especially those new to wearing reading glasses. First of all we want to assure you that all of our frames are elegant and the rimless reading glass design has the least impact of appearance of any frame style. With that said some face shapes do go better with some of our designer reading glasses.

There are 5 main face types; round, square, oval, diamond and heart, and the first thing you need to do is identify which style face you have. A heart shaped face is defined by high cheekbones, a broad forehead and having a pointed and narrow chin. An oval face will have more balanced features with high cheekbones and a chin that is narrower than the forehead. The round face shape will have equal length and width of the overall structure with full cheeks and a rounded chin. The square face will have angular features, a prominent jawline with a wide forehead. The diamond shaped face will appear narrow at the forehead and at the chin. The cheekbones are the widest point of the face and most prominent, with straight lines at the temples and jawline.

Reading Glasses for Round Faces

A round face is the perfect showcase for strong angular frames to contrast the faces feature. We suggest looking for frames with lenses that are wider than they are deep. Rectangular glasses tend to look particularly flattering on circular faces, we recommend the bold shapes of our Visualites 7 half eye readers or Visualites 8 rectangle frames from our collection of designer reading glasses to provide contrast to the softer features of a round face.

Example of Square Face ShapeReading Glassed for Square Faces

For a square face we recommend an oval or round shaped frame to soften those boxy features. In some cases a cat eye style frame may have the right amount of softness to complement a square face. Square and rectangular frames can accentuate some of the characteristics you do not want to enhance. Also note that rimless will also help to soften your sharp features! For square faces we recommend the Visualites 5 Oval frame reading glasses and the John Varvatos 804 angular style frames.

Upswept styles like cat eyes, rectangular glasses, and retro square glasses are all good compliments to heart shape faces. The trick for heart shapes is to find shapes that balance the varying widths of their face. For this style face we recommend our Visualites 2 Half Moon Readers or the John Varvatos designer reading glass frames.

Reading Glasses for an Oval Shaped FaceReading Glasses for an Oval Shaped Face

Many consider oval faces to be the ideal face shape. Oval faces have been said to have the most balanced proportions, luckily for them this means that almost any frame style compliments this face. When choosing frames for oval faces we recommend something that is as wide or slightly wider than the broadest part of the face. Glasses with accentuated detailed also look great with the high cheekbones typically found on oval faces. Maybe start with a pair of our Visualites 1 rectangle reading glasses and give a few different colors and patterns a chance to see what works.

Example of a Diamond Shaped FaceReading Glasses for a Diamond Shaped Face

For the diamond shape face we recommend a wider pair of reading glasses that will cover your cheekbones and create a nice aesthetic with your face features. Avoid narrow frames, as they don’t match broad cheekbones and narrow eyeliner. The Visualites 2 half moon readers compliment this face style nicely, as well as our new Visualites 8 rectangle reading glasses with their bold proportions.
